NoHo Condo Meets Styled Fireplace

Chances are if your NoHo condo has a fireplace, it hasn’t been lit since 1985. And we’re not looking to strike that match (pun intended), but what we are interested in is turning that once utilitarian mantel into a work of art! Real fireplaces, especially in pre-war structures, are ultimately a hazard to the entire building. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun with that ornate hole punched out of your wall. Whether or not you decide to go electric, or stay true to the original, here are a few ways to style a NoHo condo fireplace.

Color Me Condo

Luxury NoHo condos are a blank canvas for expression, inspiration, and color. You’re thinking about everything from your back-splash to bedroom window treatments. But before you put away your paint swatches, let your fireplace try them on for size. Many decorators opt to paint their fireplaces white. Not only does it give the antique structure a fresh face but gives you carte blanche when decorating. Yet, don’t be afraid to add a splash of color to your fireplace. Paint the post and lintel bright orange for a kick of surprise or give the inside a coat of electric blue for a hidden pop of color. If you aren’t interested in accessorizing your fireplace, take the out and paint it a funky color.

NoHo Condo Art Exhibit

With all this talk about gallery walls, who says your fireplace can’t get in on the action? Any NoHo condo fortunate enough to contain a fireplace has the unique opportunity to turn its feature into art. Once you’ve added a layer of fresh paint, feel free to play around with the space of the mantel. You have the opportunity to both hang pieces on the wall or lean them against it as well. Experiment with different shapes and textures to find an eclectic mix that will not only highlight the fireplace but integrate it into the art as well. Don’t forget about the wonderful opportunity to turn the interior of the fireplace into its own exhibit. Cluster together tall candles, fill it with flowers, stack faux logs, even display large artwork inside. Get to know your fireplace by dressing it up or dressing it down in a style that complements your NoHo condo.

Fireplace Storage Unit

No, this isn’t something you’ll see in an IKEA catalogue, but an effort of your own creativity. New Yorkers will use every inch of space they can, and if you’re not utilizing the space inside the fireplace then you’re in for a wake-up call. The space under the fireplace can double as storage and art if you’re creative enough. Play Tetris with your books, install shelves to display art pieces and mementos, or store wine bottles for a look that spells classy and sophisticated.
