Find Zen in Your Apartment Bathroom

In the past few years New Yorkers have become more mindful of their mindfulness. With meditation trends on the rise, luxury SoHo apartments are pushing the envelope for spaces that lend themselves to soothing vibes and calm atmospheres. We stress about the perfect couch and wallpaper that will reduce stress and we desperately strive for an effortlessly minimal aesthetic. When all is said and done, we’ve created a space that hugs you as you enter. The gallery wall is a vision of eye candy, perfectly offset by the faux fur rugs, and completely balanced by the mid century modern coffee table. Then you venture deeper into the apartment only to find your sense of calm totally disrupted by your neglected bathroom. What to do?

Move-In Ready Bathrooms

As with the more static spaces in a SoHo apartment, bathrooms are deceivingly move-in ready. The sinks are state of the art, the tiles are white and create a light breathable space. And even if the size doesn’t compare to country-club living, you tend to focus more on the empty spaces of the apartment, such as the living room and bedroom. In the spirit of utilitarianism, your bathroom is a place to do just that, bathe. But after a long day of work, or lazing around, you want the bathroom to envelop you as much as the 10-inch deep couch does. To achieve this, you’ll have to pamper your bathroom a little bit before it’s time for you to get the spa treatment yourself.

SoHo Necessities

Whether you’re nestling in a luxury SoHo apartment or not, you know your bathroom is equipped with the essentials, from a sink to a tub and everything in between. Now it’s your job to warm up the space with textures aside from marble and tiles, with fluffy towels, bathmats, and robes. Along with a toothbrush and hair products, these are the bathroom essentials. Bathroom basics are what give it the first layer of character and zen. Utilizing soft colors in your bathroom basics sets the tone for your powder room. Keeps you colors neutral, like creamy whites and soft beiges to keep the minimalist balance flowing throughout your apartment.

From Basic to Bougie

What sets apart basic bathrooms to ones of luxury is all in the details. Creating a spa-like environment for your bathroom extends beyond the softness of the towels or thickness of a bath mat. Any luxury SoHo apartment owner knows that setting ambiance begins with the senses beyond sight. Consider adding candles, a fragrance diffuser, or even fresh flowers on the sink for a spot of color and scent. Free up space and hide clutter in chic wicker baskets and stack towels and toilet paper in a pleasing, yet accessible fashion. The zen of your bathroom depends on your personal style and preference. Some love the warm visual of hanging plants, other frame their favorite art pieces. Whatever you decide for your personal spa, don’t forget the wooden bath caddy to hold you glass of wine while you soak in the tub!
